Instructional Objectives

Students will be able to do the following upon the completion of each of the units.

Unit 6

1.List approaches to environmental improvement.

2.Name the four main types of pollution, sources of pollution, and ways to control each.

3.Identify the gases found in the air and in smog.

4.List the effects of pollution on the human body. 

Unit 7

1.Identify 8 or more endangered species and tell what is being done to preserve them.

2.Identify four practices that have endangered wildlife.

3.List 5 or more soil conservation methods and identify those methods which also conserve water.

4.Explain how fires affect forest lands.

5.Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the alternative energy sources.

6.Measure the electricity and gas used in your household and practice five or more ways of saving
energy.

7.Explain the problems our failure to recycle is causing us.

8.List 5 or more factors that discourage people from recycling. 

Unit 8

1.Identify specific vocabulary.

2.Relate facts about the art of orienteering.

3.Explain what to do if you get lost.

4.Construct a shelter.

5.Locate and gather food and waste.

6.Build a fire.

7.Understand the principles of first aid and attend to minor emergencies.

8.Understand the principles of backpacking and wilderness survival. 

Unit 9

1.Identify hazardous substances and make the proper decision to dispose of such substances.

2.Be aware of the human resources as a country's source of wealth.

3.Explain the effects of alcohol, tobacco and drugs in the human body.

4.Understand the role and influence of advertising.

5.Distinguish facts from myths in relation to alcohol and drugs. 

Unit 10

1.Identify factors involved in controlling the world's population rate.

2.Explain the consequences of high population density.

3.Identify trends and consequences in population changes.

4.List the four good groups and apply four dietary guidelines to a menu.

5.Make a daily plan and rank activities according to importance.

6.List five time savers and 3 ways to cure procrastination.

7.Apply at least three principles to organize your space.

8.Explain the roles of a city council, planning commission and planning department.

9.Make a personal statement on your contribution to the environment including a possible career.
