Instructional Objectives

Unit 1
Identify and define terminology basic to geography.
List the parts of geography, ways of studying geography,
and reason for studying geography.
Identify and explain natural and cultural features.
Name alternative sources of energy.
Respond to culturally relevant questions regarding the
quality of life on earth.
Identify at least five specific geographic career fields
in geography.
Unit 2
Identify and define geographical terms for maps and
globes.
Name the three most commonly used maps.
Briefly describe the history of maps.
Locate continents on different hemispheres.
Find distances on maps.
Use coordinates to find locations on maps and globes.
Locate land and water forms on a map.
Briefly explain how maps are used to trace the past.
Unit 3
Identify and define geographic terminology relates to
culture and the American regions.
Five examples of transitional societies that are becoming
part of the developing world.
List ways in which human beings learn culture.
List components which make a region unique.
Identify various religions of the world.
Identify political systems practices in the world today.
Identify and briefly explain economic systems.
Identify countries of North America, Central America,
and South America.
Unit 4
Identify and define geographic terminology from the
European, African, and Middle Eastern Regions.
List the main cultural regions of Europe, Africa, and
the Middle East.
Identify major topographical features of the regions.
Explain the basic difference between Communist and Non-Communist
governments.
Identify the religions of the regions.
Identify countries of the regions.
Unit 5
Identify and define geographic terminology from the
Indian, Asian, Oriental, and Pacific Island Regions.
List the countries of Asia as groups - India, Southeast
Asia, China, Japan, and the Pacific Islands.
Identify major topographical features of the regions.
Identify individuals important to the history of Asia.
Give examples of governments of different Asian countries.
Identify the religions of Asia.
Identify the countries of Asia.
